Bangladesh coast guards have found the bodies of at least 20 people who drowned fleeing Myanmar, reported British Broadcasting Corporation.

The group, from the Rohingya minority and mostly children and women, were trying to escape a recent surge of violence in Rakhine state.

The crisis erupted after Rohingya rebels attacked 30 police stations last Friday, triggering a military response, said the BBC report.

More than 100 people, mostly insurgents, have been killed and more than 18,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled, the report added.
