Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on Tuesday appointed the kingdom's first-ever ambassador to Israel after the two countries began to normalize the bilateral relations, reported Xinhua.

King Hamad issued a decree appointing Khaled Yousif Al-Jalahma as head of the Diplomatic Mission of Bahrain to the State of Israel, the country's official Bahrain News Agency reported.

The designated ambassador has been the director of operations of the Bahraini Foreign Office since 2017 and served as Deputy Ambassador of Bahrain to the United States from 2009 to 2013.

Bahrain, along with the United Arab Emirates, signed the Abraham Accords last September, a joint statement which allows the two Arab countries to normalize ties with Israel.
