As many as 17 people were killed Monday by bombings that targeted a police station in the capital Damascus' Midan neighborhood, local media reported.
Several suicide bombers, believed to have been three or four, detonated themselves in front of the police station and inside, according to the report.
Previous reports indicated the blast of a suicide car bomb, but it turned out that only suicide bombers with explosive vests were behind the blast.
Footage broadcast by the Ekhbariah TV showed smoke in the area as well as ambulances and firefighters with forensics carrying the wounded on stretchers.
The capital Damascus has enjoyed relative peace in latest months, but explosions still rock from time to time.
Midan itself has been the target of several bombings during the country's over-six-year war.
The same police station in Midan was targeted last December when a suicide seven-year-old girl blew up inside the station. The blast appeared to be remotely detonated by al-Qaida-linked groups.
