An Israeli woman gave birth to healthy twins from two separate wombs, Ichilov Hospital in the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv said Thursday, reported Xinhua.

Such a rare case, according to experts, occurs in a likelihood of one in 50 million pregnancies.

The mother, 31-year-old Elle Ladovitch, was born with uterus didelphys, meaning her womb is divided into two completely separate parts, and in each of them her two fetuses grew.

"On the first examination of the pregnancy, the doctor almost fainted, and it took him 10 minutes to tell me I had a fetus in each womb," the mother said.

The twins, a boy and a girl, did not grow up together during pregnancy, and met each other only after birth, the hospital noted.

Both conditions of uterus didelphys and twins have made the pregnancy one of the highest risks, especially for preterm births.

After an intensive supervision of the pregnancy, the mother underwent a caesarean section at week 35.
