A 14-year-old victim of bullying on Friday shot dead two classmates and injured four others in Goiania, capital of the central Brazilian state of Goias, local authorities said.

The incident took place a little before noon at the Goyases private school in a middle-class neighborhood of Goiania, said police, who arrested the boy after a teacher called the authorities.

As more details emerged, G1, the website of Brazilian news network Globo, reported the eighth grader's father is a member of the Military Police (PM), presumably explaining how he had access to a 40-caliber handgun.

Brazilian President Michel Temer said via Twitter, "Like all Brazilians, I am shocked by the tragedy at the Goyases School ... My solidarity with the families. Stay strong!"

Military Police Col. Anesio Barbosa da Cruz said: "preliminary information shows he was suffering from bullying. He rebelled against it, grabbed the gun from his house and did the shooting."

The two fatal victims were identified as Joao Vitor Gomes and Joao Pedro Calembo, aged 12 and 13, respectively.

A fellow student and eyewitness said that "during recess, he took the gun out of his backpack and began shooting. Then everyone ran out."

The boy reportedly shot one of his alleged tormentors, Joao Pedro Calembo, then got carried away and kept shooting, an official, Luiz Gonzaga, told reporters.

"He was going to kill everyone. He had taken two ammunition clips to school. He emptied the first one and when he was about to load the second, a teacher talked him into handing it over," according to Gonzaga.

Among the injured were three girls and a boy.
