Canada confirmed 18,366 new COVID-19 cases for the week ending Sept. 3, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) said on Friday, reported Xinhua.

The number of total COVID-19 cases and deaths in Canada reached 4,197,701 and 44,347 respectively, according to the weekly update issued by the PHAC.

People who were diagnosed with COVID-19 after completing their primary vaccine series were significantly less likely to be hospitalized or to die, particularly if they received an additional dose(s), the PHAC said.

According to the health agency, between July 4-31, unvaccinated cases were five times more likely to be hospitalized and seven times more likely to die from their illness, compared to cases with a completed primary vaccine series.

During the same four-week period, unvaccinated cases were six times more likely to be hospitalized and eight times more likely to die from their illness, compared to cases with a completed primary vaccine series and one or more additional doses.
