The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) on Sunday killed a senior member of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and his bodyguard in northern Iraq, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported, reported Xinhua.

Okkes Deveri, codenamed Kendal Pirsus, was responsible for the health committee of the PKK, the news agency reported, quoting anonymous Turkish security officials.

Deveri and his bodyguard Kayhan Kartal were killed in a cross-border operation in the Gara region.

The MIT has recently intensified its cross-border operations in northern Iraq. On Saturday, it killed six PKK members in the Gara and Asos regions in Iraq.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States and the European Union, has rebelled against the Turkish government for more than three decades.
