The Iraqi military said on Thursday that it killed two Islamic State (IS) militants and arrested two others in separate operations across the country, reported Xinhua.

Based on intelligence reports, Iraqi warplanes conducted an airstrike on an IS hideout in the eastern province of Diyala and killed two IS militants, according to a statement issued by the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Military Intelligence said in a statement that its forces arrested two IS militants in separate operations in the capital Baghdad and the northern province of Kirkuk.

In another operation, the Iraqi forces found a weapon and ammunition cache belonging to the IS group at a village near the town of Makhmour, some 60 km southeast of Nineveh's provincial capital Mosul, said the Security Media Cell.

The security situation in Iraq has improved since the defeat of the IS in 2017. However, the IS remnants have since melted into urban centers, deserts, and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
