German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has criticized India's failure to clearly condemn the Russian war on Ukraine during his visit to New Delhi on Thursday, reported dpa.
"This is not right," he said. "It is a breach of international law the likes of which we have not seen for a long time. And that must also be stated more clearly by the Indian side."
India takes a neutral position on the war, does not support Western sanctions against Moscow and repeatedly promotes conflict resolution through dialogue.
India has good relations with Western countries, but also with Russia, on which it depends for its military equipment. However, the country is also increasingly buying military equipment from other countries, including France.
During the war, India increased its purchase of cheap oil from Russia.
However, Habeck also stressed that, from his point of view, India was moving away from Russia and opening up to Europe. "But of course, that does not change the fact that clarity - including clarity on the sanctions regime - is still missing," he said.
