Gunmen kill 7 in Nigeria

At least seven people were killed recently by gunmen in two villages of Nigeria's northeastern state of Bauchi, police said on Thursday, reported Xinhua.

A group of gunmen attacked on Tuesday night the Gara and Gamji villages in the Ningi local government area of the state, killing at least seven people and injuring several others, said Ahmed Wakili, a local police spokesman, in a statement.

Wakili said the police and military forces fought with the gunmen and killed three of them, while the others escaped with gunshot wounds.

One soldier was injured during the gunfight and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, according to Wakili.

Armed attacks have been a primary security threat in Nigeria's northern and central regions, leading to deaths and kidnappings in recent months.
