The death toll from wildfires in the U.S. state of Hawaii's Maui jumped to 80, Maui County officials said Friday, reported Xinhua.

Governor Josh Green had previously warned the death toll would likely rise as search and rescue operations continue.

The death toll was 67 earlier in the day. Strong winds from Hurricane Dora were to blame for the deadly wildfires, destroying parts of Lahaina, a tourist spot on Maui Island.

The wildfires are the state's deadliest natural disaster in decades, according to local media reports.
