The death toll from a landslide that hit a mining village in the southern Philippines on Thursday has risen to 10, with one other missing, police and local officials said Friday, reported Xinhua.

In a report posted on social media, the municipality of Monkayo said rescuers recovered three more bodies near the houses buried by the mud and heaps of debris.

Rescuers recovered seven bodies, including five children, on Thursday, a few hours after the landslide hit.

The municipality said a one-year-old girl was injured. The only person still missing is a 45-year-old man.

Search and rescue operations resumed on Friday despite heavy downpours that started on Tuesday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said over 70,000 families, or over 270,000 people, have been affected by flooding and landslides due to massive rains in four provinces in the Davao region on Mindanao island.
