Freezing weather and snowfall have led to 15 deaths in Afghanistan as a cold spell persists in parts of the Central Asian country, reported Xinhua, quoting the private media outlet Tolonews on Saturday.

"As a result of heavy snowfall in some provinces of the country over the past three days, 15 people have died, and nearly 30 others have been injured," the report said.

It added that statistics from the provinces of Balkh and Faryab showed that in addition to human casualties, nearly 10,000 livestock have perished due to the recent snowfalls.

Parts of Afghanistan have been experiencing rains and snowfalls since last Sunday.
