Ibu volcano on Halmahera Island, east of Indonesia, erupted on Wednesday evening, throwing ash 2,000 meters above its peak, according to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, reported Xinhua.
"The eruption occurred at 7:23 p.m. local time for 121 seconds, while the wind was heading west," said Ibu volcano Observation Post Officer, Axl Roeroe.
The center asks people to wear glasses and masks when doing activities outside the home and to stay away from rivers that originate at the top of the mountain.
During 2023, Mount Ibu was the second most active volcano in Indonesia, erupting up to 21,100 times.
