A police officer was stabbed and a suspect was shot during an altercation in Toronto, Canada's biggest city, on Friday afternoon, reported Xinhua.

Toronto Police said the incident occurred in the parking lot of a plaza in the area of College Street and Lansdowne Avenue at 1:33 p.m. local time.

Video obtained by CTV News showed officers struggling with a person on the ground in between two parked cars. Two officers were seen with their guns drawn, pointing their firearms at the person who fell to the ground a short time later.

Both the officer and the suspect were in stable condition in hospital, the police said.

According to Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, three Toronto police officers were injured doing their duties this week, including one assaulted walking down the street, another hurt intervening in a car theft, and now this troubling incident. "Violence is never acceptable," Chow said on social media.

Roads in the area were blocked and an investigation was ongoing, the police said.
