A video widely circulated on social media is appearing to show a Texas Army National Guard member firing projectiles at migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border, reported Xinhua, quoting local media on Thursday.

In the 24-second video published on Wednesday by Border Report, which reports on news from the U.S.-Mexico border, a guardsman fired projectiles behind razor wire along the border river of The Rio Grande as people off-camera yell in Spanish, "There are children! There are children!"

The guard member first stands in front, then behind a black truck. More voices are heard in Spanish: "Record him! Record him!" "See how they treat us!", the video showed.

A report from The Newsweek said the video appears to be filmed from the Mexican side of the border.

No further information could immediately be verified.

New Mexico media outlet KRQE reported that photos taken on Tuesday showed several men apparently cutting the razor wire.

El Paso Times reported in March that hundreds of migrants breached razor wire barriers along the Rio Grande in the El Paso area after Texas National Guard soldiers were unable to hold them back.

U.S. federal data showed that along the southern border, Texas on average accounted for roughly 59 percent of migrant encounters during the 2023 fiscal year and 43 percent during the first half of the 2024 fiscal year, which began in October 2023.
