Hunter Biden's ex-wife Kathleen Buhle and ex-girlfriend Zoe Kestan were called to testify on Wednesday in the third day of his federal gun trial in Wilmington, U.S. state of Delaware, reported Xinhua.

Hunter Biden, the youngest son and only surviving son of U.S. President Joe Biden, faces three felony gun charges in the historic trial that carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison if he's convicted. The 54-year-old was indicted last September by a federal grand jury on charges related to his purchase of a revolver in October 2018 while he was a drug user.

Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

Buhle, who was married to Hunter Biden from 1993 to 2017, told the jury that she first knew Hunter Biden using drugs in July 2015 after she found a pipe in the ashtray on the porch of their Washington, D.C. home and confronted him about it, local news outlet Delaware News Journal reported.

Buhle said Hunter Biden "acknowledged smoking crack," the report added.

Buhle also told the jury she would search Hunter Biden's car following their divorce in 2017 out of concern for their children. Buhle stated that she continued to do these checks until 2019, following the period in which Hunter Biden purchased the gun. But she admitted that she never actually saw Hunter Biden use drugs, according to the report.

Kestan also testified about Hunter Biden's drug use in court.

Kestan described hotel stays in New York, where she lives, as well as Atlantic City and she said Hunter Biden used crack cocaine during these rendezvous through early 2018, said the report of Delaware News Journal.

Hunter Biden's gun trial is the first prosecution for the child of a sitting president in the history of the United State, which draws national attention in a contentious election year.

Hunter Biden is also facing another criminal trial in Los Angeles on tax fraud charges. A federal judge agreed last month to postpone the trial until September.
