5 bodies recovered after ferry capsizes in Myanmar

At least five bodies were recovered two days after a ferry boat capsized in a river in Yangon region of southern Myanmar, according to local rescue organizations on Friday, reported Xinhua.

The fatal ferry accident occurred at around 8:10 a.m. local time on Wednesday after the ferry collided with a parked ship.

"We transported a total of five bodies to Yangon General Hospital. The bodies were found in different locations along the river. Additionally, another body was reportedly discovered and transported by another rescue group," an official from Lin Latt Rescue Organization told Xinhua on Friday.

The five bodies they transported included four males and one female. Among them, a male and a female were students and siblings, the official said.

Local authorities and rescue organizations continued their search for additional bodies, she added.

On Wednesday, the ferry was carrying 16 passengers, and eight of them survived the accident that day.
