Three Syrian children were killed on Tuesday in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Umm Al-Tut in Lebanon's southern Tyre district, reported Xinhua, quoting Lebanese military sources.

The sources, who requested anonymity, stated that an Israeli warplane launched two air-to-surface missiles at a house on an agricultural field in Umm Al-Tut. The attack resulted in the deaths of three children of Syrian nationalities, the destruction of the house, and damage to the surrounding field.

A total of five airstrikes by Israeli warplanes targeted four towns and villages in Lebanon's southern border region on Tuesday afternoon, destroying 12 homes and damaging 25 others, according to the sources.

They also reported that Israeli artillery fired approximately 25 shells, including 12 phosphorus shells, hitting seven towns and villages in the eastern sector and causing multiple fires.

Meanwhile, Lebanese military sites recorded the launch of about 40 surface-to-surface missiles from Lebanon toward northern Israel, with some intercepted by Israel's air defense system.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border have been escalating since Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel to support Hamas' surprise attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southern Lebanon.
