At least 12 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, sources said on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

An Israeli aircraft targeted a gathering of Palestinians at the entrance of the Nuseirat camp, Palestinian security sources told Xinhua. It killed 12 people and injured several others, who were all taken to hospital, medical sources told Xinhua.

The Israeli army has not commented on this incident yet.

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 were taken hostage.

During the past 24 hours, the Israeli military killed 37 people and wounded 73 others, bringing the total Palestinian death toll in Gaza to 39,400 and injuries to 90,996 since the Palestinian-Israeli conflict broke out in last October, the Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Tuesday.
