At least 16 Palestinians, including children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City, according to Palestinian sources on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

The Civil Defense reported that nine Palestinians, including five children, died in an Israeli attack on an apartment in central Gaza City. Another strike targeted the Nama College building in northern Gaza City, which shelters displaced persons, killing seven and injuring several others.

The Israeli army stated that the attack on Nama College was aimed at a Hamas command and control center embedded in the building. The army claimed that extensive measures were taken to minimize civilian casualties, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.

The Israeli military vowed to continue its operations "with strength and determination" against "terrorist" organizations using civilian institutions as hideouts.

The current large-scale offensive by Israel against Hamas in the Gaza Strip is in retaliation for a Hamas attack on the southern Israeli border on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and 250 hostages taken.

Gaza-based health authorities reported that the ongoing Israeli attacks have resulted in 40,819 Palestinian deaths in the enclave.
