7 killed in Israeli attack on Syrian residential neighborhood

Seven people were killed and 11 others injured in an Israeli attack Tuesday night in the residential neighborhood of Mazzeh, west of the Syrian capital Damascus, according to a statement by the Syrian Defense Ministry, reported Xinhua.

Among the casualties were children and women who were admitted to hospitals, Syria's state news agency SANA reported.

Xinhua reporter at the site heard the sound of explosions, accompanied by billowing clouds of smoke and the wailing of ambulances.

Eyewitnesses told Xinhua that the strike hit a 14-floor building in the densely-populated Sheikh Sa'ad area, which includes residential buildings and a bustling marketplace.

Two floors of the building were damaged, added the eyewitnesses.
