Saudi Arabia welcomes possible Trump-Putin meeting in kingdom

Saudi Arabia welcomed on Friday the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the kingdom, reported Xinhua.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry, in a statement on social media platform X, commended a phone call between Trump and Putin on Wednesday. Following the phone conversation, Trump indicated that he would "probably" meet with Putin in person soon, suggesting that the meeting could take place in Saudi Arabia.

The kingdom reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine in the statement, stating that shortly after the onset of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Saudi Arabia expressed its "readiness to provide its good offices to reach a political solution to the crisis."

Trump spoke with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine by phone on Wednesday and said both countries agreed to begin peace negotiations.
