U.S. student hacks into university system to change grades

A former University of Iowa student has admitted in federal court to hacking into the school's computer system and changing his grades, Radio Iowa reported on Tuesday.

Twenty-year-old Trevor Graves reached a plea agreement in which he admitted to using a device called "keylogger" onto University of Iowa computers between March of 2015 and November of 2016.

The device enabled him to obtain the user names and passwords of professors. He then obtained copies of tests and quizzes. Graces also admitted to changing course grades for himself and five other students.

The university said the breach of the computer system and the updates needed afterward cost the school 67,900 U.S. dollars.

Graves, from Colorado, will be sentenced for computer fraud on Aug. 23.
