16 killed after twin bomb blasts rip through sports gym in Kabul

At least 16 people were killed and over 25 others wounded after two suicide bomb blasts ripped through a sports gym in western side of Afghanistan's capital of Kabul on Wednesday, officials said.
The first explosion occurred at 05:55 p.m. local time after a terrorist detonated his explosive belt inside Maywand Wrestling Gym in Dasht-i-Barchi neighborhood, Police District 6, Nasrat Rahimi, an Interior Ministry spokesman, told Xinhua.
The second blast occurred near the gate of the compound about an hour later, targeting responding police, reporters and crowd of people gathering near the site.
Afghan Public Health Ministry stated in a short message sent to the media outlets that 14 people were killed and 25 others were injured while two assailants were also died on the spot.
Footage by local media showed several police vehicles and ambulances carrying victims most of them wearing sportswear.
Among those killed were two journalists and a police officer.
The number of casualties was likely to increase.
Further details about the incident are still forthcoming amid the absence of any official statement.
The neighborhood dominated by Shiite Muslim has been hit by series of terror attacks since beginning this year.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The Islamic State (IS) group mostly claimed terror attacks in Dasht-i-Barchi.
