Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo returned home Sunday after a near-fatal air accident in Washington D.C., United States late Saturday, local media has reported.
Minister of Information designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who addressed the media soon after the president's arrival, confirmed that one of the engines of Ghana's presidential jet carrying the president and his entourage who had attended the UN General Assembly went off about 20 minutes after take-off in Washington D.C., reports indicated.
Sources told the media that the Falcon 900 aircraft had to fly over the US capital for some time to burn fuel before being assisted to land.
Nkrumah said Akufo-Addo and his entourage later returned to Ghana on a South African Airways commercial flight.
