Rajoelina wins Madagascar's presidential election

Madagascar's Independent National Election Commission (INEC) declared during a press conference Thursday the victory of Andry Rajoelina in the second round of presidential election.

The president of the INEC Hery Rakotomanana declared the official announcement of provisional results, saying that Andry Rajoelina got about 55.7 percent of the votes.

He added that the other candidate Marc Ravalomanana received some 44.3 percent of the votes.

According to Rakotomanana, there are more than 9,900,000 registered voters and the participation rate in the second round of election stood at about 48 percent.
