The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has put Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law, on the list of its targets under scrutiny regarding alleged collusion with Russia, U.S. media reported Thursday.
Kushner was believed to have "significant information relevant to the FBI inquiry," multiple local news outlets quoted U.S. officials as saying.
Kushner is not being suspected of a crime or under the danger of being charged, according to the reports.
Kushner, a senior advisor to Trump, is also the husband of Trump's daughter Ivanka. It is believed that he wields significant sway inside the White House.
According to public records, Kushner met at least once with Russian ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak last year.
"Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about these meetings. He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry," NBC News quoted Kushner's lawyer Jamie Gorelick as saying.
The FBI is investigating whether the Russian government colluded with individuals associated with the Trump campaign in the 2016 presidential elections.
