The Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) has great potential in the development of innovative economy, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said during his visit to Warsaw on Monday.

During the Central and Eastern Europe Innovation Roundtable, which organized by Poland's Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology, Pichai discussed the digital economy and innovation with CEE officials.

"We believe that the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, thanks to a very good education system, talented staff and openness to new technologies, are in a particularly privileged position to develop the potential of the digital economy", Pichai noted,

He also estimated that due to digitization, the GDP in the CEE region might exceed 200 billion euros in the following years.

Pichai reminded that Google has trained around half a million of CEE region citizens since 2015 and underlined the role of cooperation between government representatives, experts and industry representatives in using responsibly technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said he didn't want another brain drain; he was seeking ways to keep talented people in their home countries. He also underlined Poland's desire to participate in the fourth industrial revolution, with a focus on developing robotics, artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.

The CEE Innovation Roundtable gathered politicians and businessmen from across CEE region, including countries such as Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania, in order to discuss ways of boosting the region's innovation performance and make use of its digital potential.
