At least nine people, including eight policemen, were killed and 21 others injured in a terrorist attack on a police office in Loralai district in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Tuesday, a provincial minister said.
Balochistan province Home Minister Zia Ullah Langau said that three terrorists stormed the office of Deputy Inspector General of Police, located in Loralai, with automatic guns and hand grenades.
One of the terrorists exploded himself at the main entrance of the police compound after facing resistances and the other two managed to enter the complex and attacked people present inside.
Soon after the attack, police commandos and security forces rushed to the scene and cordoned off the police compound. Extensive fire exchanges and a number of blasts of hand grenades were heard after the security forces entered the compound.
Dozens of civilians were present in the police office for job interviews when the attack took place. The security forces rescued policemen and civilians who were stuck in different rooms of the compound.
Inspector General of Police of Balochistan Mohsin Hassan Butt said the two remaining terrorists were also killed in the operation.
Medical Superintendent of Loralai Civil Hospital Faheem told local media that the death toll might further rise as four of the injured are in critical condition.
No group has claimed the attack yet.
