At least 57 people were killed in the floods that hit most parts of Iran over the past two weeks, Iran Emergency Organization said Tuesday.

Mojtaba Khaledi, spokesman of the organization, told official IRNA news agency that 478 others were injured in the recent floods.

Heavy downpours and floods have caused massive destruction to Iran's agricultural sector, infrastructures as well as the rural and urban residential areas since March 19.

Dozens of villages and cities in western Iran are still surrounded by high water levels.

In Poldokhtar county of Lorestan Province, a number of villages have disappeared under the mud and sludge.
